New Delhi [India], February 23: The Gujarat Council on Science and Technology (GUJCOST), functioning under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of Gujarat, has organized a two-day scientific outreach program titled “Science Education & Awareness in Mother Language” on 21–22 February 2026 at the Science Dome, Gujarat Science City to mark International Mother Language Day.

The program was inaugurated on the first day with a ceremonial lamp lighting. Students from Rangoli International School presented the welcome song. Dr. Narottam Sahu, Advisor to GUJCOST, highlighted the importance of Mother Language Day.

On this occasion, Dr. Vrajesh Parikh, General Manager of Gujarat Council of Science City, stated that journalism should have dedicated reporters for science and innovation who can effectively communicate science and technology topics to the public. He further emphasized the need to translate terminology used in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) research into the mother language so that people can easily understand scientific vocabulary.

Prof. Pankaj Joshi, a distinguished Physics Professor from Ahmedabad University, delivered the keynote address on “Science Communication in the Mother Language.” During Technical Session-I, a panel dialogue featuring Dr. J.J. Rawal, Dr. Sanjay Thakkar, and Dr. Kishor Pandya provided guidance on presenting science effectively in Gujarati.

In the afternoon, Technical Session-II on “Science Communication: Means, Media and Modes” was chaired by Dr. V.B. Kamble. Dr. D.P. Patel, Mr. Trilok Sanghani, and Dr. Sushrut Patel discussed new dimensions of science dissemination through various media.

In the evening, Prof. K.N. Joshipura conducted a workshop titled “Explaining Complex Science Simply in Gujarati Language.” An “Interactive Science Walk” and a Video & Reel Making Competition were also organized for registered participants.

On the second day, under the theme “Youth as Ambassadors of Multilingual Science,” Workshop Series-II will feature Dr. Parul Patel, former Group Director at the Space Applications Centre (SAC-ISRO), who will guide participants on creating science content in the mother language. In the session “Science Communication Lab: From Idea to Impact,” Dr. Narottam Sahu and Mr. Nishith Joshi, Editor of DD Girnar, will present practical approaches.

The program will conclude with the announcement of winners of the Video & Reel Making Competition and distribution of certificates and prizes.

Through this two-day initiative, a significant effort is being made to enhance interest and awareness about science in the mother language among students, teachers, and youth. Gujarat Science City and GUJCOST will continue to undertake similar initiatives in the future.
